Though I could insert you into a setting of your choice had I not been sealed here, it is a moot point. Nothing like those fanfictions you read on your variation of Earth, little one. Now Alex, since I can see that you and I have nothing to do for the next few eons until someone checks on us, may I suggest a game? While it is a shame that you do not know how you managed to find yourself here, it is no great loss. You are correct, the probability of your soul being the only soul to slip into this realm would be astronomically low, if not for the fact that this place is supposed to be sealed. Huh? Had I vocalized my thoughts? What in the blazing fires of hell? Nevertheless, maybe I can make use of this situation… The problem was, I didn’t know how I had ended up here, so I couldn’t explain to the being how I had ended up here.

Huh, I was the only soul to slip into this realm of nothingness? The probability of that seemed unlikely, though I had no real choice but to believe what the being had said, seeing as I was stuck here. I am merely curious as to how you arrived here, little mortal. As to why I called out to you, simply put, you are the only soul to have slipped through to this nothingness in eons, for reasons currently unknown to myself.

Your native language doesn’t have the proper words to name me, I’m afraid. “Who are you? Why did you call out my name?” You are currently in the sea of nothingness that exists between worlds. “Hello? Where exactly is this? Am I dead?” I could no longer tell if I had any anatomy whatsoever, and should I have been forced to guess, I would assume I had none. I floated, disembodied and without any sensation, yet remaining aware. (ETA of first chapter: Tonight! For now, I'll be answering questions!) I will not post something that is unbeta'd, which is why me saying "I have another chapter almost ready to go" generally will mean that it is in the beta process.įinally, I hope all of you enjoy Light of the Future, and I hope you stick around! Three, Zion is the "last boss" of this fic, though I have the nigglings of a sequel in the works.įour, what I post on here is generally all I have at the moment. Two, expect some subtle changes to the timeline, and different reasons for things happening. Shards that deviate from their purpose of DATA collection from conflict are called Irregular by the entities, and Mavericks by Cauldron, who are absolutely aware of this phenomenon. This goes for the Endbringers as well, though it is extremely uncommon for them to deviate from their purpose. One, Shards are not always on the entities' sides. We'll get to the why in a bit, since I will be disclosing certain things you need to or want to know to enjoy this story to the fullest, without breaking suspension of disbelief. The ever-dreaded Leviathan fight won't even be on my radar since I have absolutely zero intention of letting it happen in the first place. Don't worry too much about that though, since I plan on diverging from canon as soon as possible. Yet another disclaimer: I haven't actually read Worm past a certain point. Light of the Future will attempt to focus upon that light, making it a beacon to shine out against the encroaching darkness that is Zion/Scion. Worm may be a place where parahumans sow chaos and despair wherever they go, but even between all that, there is always the light of hope. RHJunior's The Warcrafter is yet another major inspiration, as well as Taleswapper's The Rising of the Shield Heroine.Īll in all, Light of the Future has been a project that I have wanted to write since being introduced to the worm fandom, compounded heavily when I read RHJunior's approach to "fixing canon" in the Warcrafter. In particular, Grounders10's The Taste of Peaches and Dreaming of Fairies inspired me, though they are but a drop in the ocean of inspiration that comes from this fandom. Seriously though, the absolute madhouse that this fandom is inspires me, and I just couldn't resist throwing my own project down to compete with the rest.
